New Route in Hamburg

This means that the NST/E1 route through Hamburg via Blankenese to Cranz is no longer practical without significant effort, as it would require long bus rides. An alternative for the NST/E1 was developed and successfully tested by Heike (“Pocahontas”) and Rainer (“Löschhiker”). Many thanks to these two “Northern Lights” for your fantastic support!

Instead of the ferry in Blankenese, NST hikers now use Ferry 64 from Teufelsbrück to Finkenwerder. This ferry is well-equipped, with onboard restrooms and numerous USB charging ports. It departs every 20 minutes.

In Finkenwerder, disembark at the “Rüschpark” stop and follow the Elbe waterfront westward to a small observation tower in the river. From there, a new 13-kilometer section begins, which reconnects with the regular NST route above Neu Wulmstorf.

This new section is unlikely to have NST markings in 2025, as we want to gather your feedback first. However, the updated GPX tracks reflecting this change will be available starting February 1, 2025.
