Second Fortuna Hiking Day

The best football club in the world is calling for the second Fortuna Hiking Day, and we from the North South Trail Initiative are, of course, joining in again. This time, the challenge was to complete a hiking route of 14.1 kilometers from Mettmann to Düsseldorf-Flingern.

The club seems to have taken the feedback from the first Hiking Day to heart and limited the start time to one hour. This helped keep the participants closer together. The starting point was at Neandertal train station, giving a hint that this time the route would take us through more beautiful nature than last year. Joining the hike were “Shoeless Joe” and “Hot Pan” from the YouTube channel Trailroads as well as the “Riesling Hiker”, who is actually a BVB fan (Borussia Dortmund), but we Rhinelanders are known for being a tolerant bunch. The trail turned out to be truly beautiful and close to nature. Even for me, a true Düsseldorf native, there were parts of the route that I hadn’t been familiar with. A big shout-out to the organizers, everything really came together well.

Conclusion:
Great event organized by my favorite club. The route was well chosen and manageable for everyone. Ending the hike at the Flingern Street Festival was also a nice bonus. Now, it’s time to renew the season ticket for next year and dream about the upcoming season. Of course, we’ll see each other again at the third Fortuna Hiking Day.
