Hello dear friends of the North South Trail,
Here is the major GPX update for the NST for 2023. The following changes have been added:

• The biggest change for 2023 occurs between Hann. Münden and Brilon. The previous trail route along the Hessenwege had become partially impassable and some sections were no longer accessible, with an excessive amount of asphalt. A big thank you goes to FalconX for the excellent tour proposal. As a result, the trail has been extended by 106 km, now totaling an impressive 3620 kilometers. Another advantage of the new route is the inclusion of trekking sites along the Habichtswaldsteig and the Diemelsteig. I personally hiked this new route in the fall of 2022 over a span of 9 days, documenting all the shelters and water sources along the way. • Further minor changes at Lake Constance, many thanks to trail steward „Freestyla“ Frank Hikes for his help.
• The alpine alternative routes via the Nagelfluhkette and Heilbronner Weg have been removed from the NST. These paths are generally not passable during these seasons anyway, and we do not want hikers without alpine experience to put themselves in unnecessary danger.
